New Smart Card Solutions with Firmware Updates and Plug-and-Play Integration

Auerbach, 6. August 2026 - CHERRY is expanding its security portfolio with the Smart Board 1150 and the Smart Terminal ST-1150. As the successors to the CHERRY KC 1000 SC and the Smart Terminal ST-1144, both models are based on a completely new, proprietary electronics and firmware architecture. The Smart Terminal ST-1150 will now be manufactured entirely in Europe. With this move, CHERRY establishes a foundation for the platform's long-term development, simplifies customer support, and enables organisations to flexibly adapt to future regulatory and security-related requirements. Both solutions feature a flash-based controller that allows post-deployment firmware updates and support Microsoft’s native CCID driver as well as pcsc-lite for Linux and macOS. This enables integration into existing IT infrastructures without the need for vendor-specific drivers. Developed entirely in-house, the platform offers companies, government agencies, and other organisations with demanding security requirements a reliable foundation for long-term use.

CHERRY Smart Board 1150

The CHERRY Smart Board 1150 combines a full-function keyboard with an integrated smart card reader for electronic signatures, user authentication, data encryption, and access control. When paired with appropriate software, it provides a reliable solution for workstations where sensitive data is handled or protected systems are accessed.

The Smart Board 1150 is based on CHERRY’s new electronics and firmware platform. This enables post-deployment firmware updates, while integration into existing IT environments is achieved through native Microsoft CCID drivers and pcsc-lite for Linux and macOS.

The smart card reader’s low-profile design allows for convenient one-handed operation and supports ergonomic workflows. An integrated Copilot key helps support modern workflows, while packaging volume, reduced by approximately 15 percent, optimises logistics and shipping.

The Smart Board 1150 is also available in a TAA-compliant version. This version meets the requirements of the U.S. Trade Agreements Act and is suitable for government agencies, military facilities, and other organisations with specific procurement requirements.

CHERRY Smart Terminal ST-1150

With the Smart Terminal ST-1150, CHERRY introduces the next generation of its smart card terminal. The device supports reading and writing smart cards for applications such as access control, network login, and smart card-based online transactions, thereby helping to protect sensitive data.

Manufactured entirely in Europe, the Smart Terminal ST-1150 is also based on the new CHERRY platform, offering firmware update capabilities and plug-and-play integration via Microsoft CCID and pcsc-lite for Linux and macOS.

A metal-weighted base ensures convenient one-handed operation. The smart terminal is energy-efficient, supports ISO/IEC 7816, CCID, and CAC standards, and meets TAA and FIPS-201 requirements.

It is therefore particularly well-suited for government agencies, defense organizations, and other regulated organizations that demand reliability, compliance, and long-term stability.
