Inexpensive alternative: ST-2052 MKT+ Terminal
The ST-2052 terminal used for reading the eGK (electronic health card) and KVK (health insurance card) is the clever alternative for all price-conscious users prior to the launch of the connectors. Once the connectors are installed, the terminal will become a compact all-rounder, which can be used conveniently for electronic signatures or home banking. The USB chip card reader can be operated easily with one hand due to its weight, sturdiness and stability. The manufacturer of the practice administration program or hospital information system must enable the device so that the entire scope of functions can be used. Further information about this can be obtained from the software manufacturer. Along with reading the eGK, the ST-2052 MKT+ Terminal provides an additional benefit. This concerns the question of whether the general declaration should be signed by an eHealth BCS Terminal approved for the qualified electronic signature. In its “Guidelines for hardware and software requirements in practices”, the KBV points out that online services should be used via a dedicated internet computer when internet access is available. This computer should not, when possible, be connected to the practice network or computers which store patient data. This prohibits using the computer to which the BCS Terminal is usually connected as the point for signing and sending collective billing. An inexpensive signature terminal is therefore recommended as a secondary device. This can also be used as a MKT+ Terminal for reading the KVK and the eGK at the start of the quarter, or other peak periods. Furthermore, this terminal is also suitable for the portal solutions used by diverse physicians' associations, using an HPC (health professional card) or another chip card. Transactions for diverse projects, including secure physician's letters, creation of diagnostic findings or e-documentation (including colonoscopy, DMP), and not to mention secure home banking, HBCI, can also be completed using this device.
